ELT Malta Virtual Conference

The 9th ELT Malta Conference is being held virtually this year over a period of 3 days, from the 8th until the 10th of October 2020. The theme chosen for this year’s conference was “Teaching in Challenging Times”, and this in line with the challenges that the international education industry has faced this past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The three-day virtual event saw the participation of over 400 English Language teachers based in Malta who teach English in language, private, church and state schools.

Like in previous years, the conference will have the input of some of the best local and international teacher trainers, with talks on various topics related to English Language Teaching and challenges that teachers are currently facing right now due to the global pandemic.

Speaking of this year’s ‘slightly different’ conference, Ms. Sue Falzon, CEO of the ELT council told us that, “The ELT industry in Malta is going through very challenging times and we appreciate the challenges faced by the different stakeholders due to the pandemic.  In these circumstances we have focused our efforts not just on keeping the industry afloat but on  ensuring that it will emerge from this crisis stronger than ever. With that aim in mind we have been organising more CPD sessions than usual to keep everyone in the industry motivated and to ensure that we keep investing in quality, personal development and training.  In line with our commitment to invest in our human resources, we have decided to organize the 9 th ELT Malta Conference online, with over 200 ELT educators enrolling to participate. As the Malta ELT Industry regulator we are committed  to supporting the industry and its professionals  and to keep on creating as many opportunities as possible for their professional development.”

The 9th ELT Malta Virtual Conference reached its peak on Saturday afternoon with the announcement of the winners of the 7th ELT Inspiring Award and the 2nd ELT Career Service Award.

This year the 7th ELT Inspiring Award went to Pam Borg.

And the 2nd ELT Career Service Award went to Jean Sciberras.

Both winners have a very solid career and background in English Language Teaching and are considered to be mentors by their peers.
